Municipal Waste Europe promote municipal waste management within the European Union.

Municipal Waste Europe is the European association representing municipalities responsible for waste management and their publicly owned waste management companies promoting public responsibility for waste management as a service of general interest.

The aim is to guarante the freedom of choice concerning organisational
and financial structure for local and regional waste management responsibility.  The objective of Municipal Waste Europe is to safeguard the interest of municipalities and public entities responsible for policy and operation in the field of waste management, thus including sorting, collection, recycling, recovery and disposal as well as administration, economics, planning, education and development. The municipalities must have the opportunity to operate on the entire waste market.

Municipal Waste Europe will

  • promote the public responsibility for waste management
  • organize exchange of experience amongst members and others
  • gather and ciruclate information
  • raise awareness and opinins, influencing decision makers and to take actions on issues within the organistions objective

The members are national public waste associations and similar.

Municipal Waste Europe co-operates with other organisation representing the public sector as well as environmental and waste issues. 

Municipal Waste Europe basic policy:

Waste management is a service of public and general interest, a basis for civilisation, environmental control and health protection.

The local and regional responsibilities are fundamental to arrange a basic level of public services.

The municipal waste responsibilities, specifically the municipal control of the system for waste management, is necessary to provide long-term waste services.

General needs are to be provided through collective systems.
