History

Several national public waste associations have been informally working together for many years. Municipal Waste Europe was established in 2008 as a network of waste associations, primarily from Nordic European countries. The aim was to provide information and promote the policy of the network towards the European Union and others. Municipal Waste Europe is now well known in the European arena and it is steadily growing with new members joining. The network became an independent organization on 13 May 2009 when a statute for an international non-profit organization under Belgian Law (AISBL) was adopted and the first Board was elected.
