Verband kommunaler Unternehmen e.V. (VKU) is the German Association of Local Public Utilities representing the interests of the local public utility sector in Germany, which includes both supply and disposal services. Founded in 1949, the German Association of Local Public Utilities has its headquarters in Berlin. It also runs an EU representation in Brussels. Furthermore VKU is represented at federal state level with local offices. The 1,500 member companies organized within VKU are primarily active in the fields of energy supply, water supply and sewage, waste management, municipal cleaning and telecommunication.
