Position Paper: Draft Commission Guidelines for Waste Prevention, 18 February 2010

Short summary:

Municipal Waste Europe believes that the draft guidelines do not distinguish between ‘prevention of waste’ and ‘prevention of waste being generated’. While the former is part of the waste treatment and is traditionally seen as ‘preparing for re-use’, the latter is not part of the waste management treatment. Municipal Waste Europe thinks that waste prevention should have secondary importance compared with diminishing environmental and human health impact as well as saving resources in the whole life cycle of products.
