The Council promotes biomass from agricultural waste

The EU ministers of agriculture met at the Council on 19 July. The Agriculture Council concluded that the energy use of biomass from agriculture is an important part of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The ministries debated the potential of biomass and stated that investments for the development of renewable energy in rural areas will be supported. The Polish Presidency at the Council has also committed to promote energy from by-products and waste generated from agriculture.
Next steps:
The Commission will publish in October a proposal on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2013. Biomass from agricultural waste should be widely addresses on this proposal.
