Municipal Waste Europe started operating 1 June 2008.

The members are national public waste associations and similar national or regional associations.

The members are presently:

Municipal Waste Europe will:

  • raise attention to municipal waste management in Brussels
  • promote public responsibility for waste
  • promote the policy of the network towards the EU and others
  • provide information in concentrated form to and from the members of the network
  • provide examples of success from local and regional systems
  • promote public involvement in the waste market according to market rules.

History

The basic policy of Municipal Waste Europe
Waste managemnet is a service of public and general interest, a basis for civilisation, environmental control and health protection.
The local and regional responsibilities are fundamental to arrange a basic level of public services.
The municipal waste responsibilities, specifically the municipal control of the system for waste management, is necessary to provide long-term waste services.
General needs are to be provided through collective systems. Individual choices for individual needs, not for action that concerns and affects everybody.
